As the days are coming we get to know that a few big changes are coming to Social Security, and not everyone is happy.
While millions are getting paid in July, others could see their benefits cut by 50%.
So the good news is every one going to get paid from the US Government it is sure and it must be done by the end of July 2025.
Payments Start This Week
Also you know that your birthday date is important here to get paid the Social Security Checks and by this week it will obviously start.
People born between the 1st and 10th will be paid on Wednesday, July 9.
If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, your money comes on July 16.
Anyone born from the 21st to the 31st will be paid on July 23.
Those who got benefits before May 1997, or get both SSI and Social Security, were already paid on July 3.
New Rule Could Cut Payments in Half
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is starting a new rule this month.
If they say you were overpaid, they could take back 50% of your check. That means half your money could be gone.
This only applies if you were told about an overpayment after April 25, 2025.
You get 90 days to respond. If you don’t, the SSA starts holding back money around July 24.
What Counts as an Overpayment?
An overpayment means the SSA says they gave you more money than you should’ve received.
This could be for retirement, disability, or family benefits.
Even if the mistake wasn’t your fault, the SSA may still want the money back.
What If You Can’t Pay?
You do have options. If you can’t afford to lose half your check, you can ask for help.
The SSA lets you file Form SSA-632. This form asks them to forgive the extra money or lower the amount they take back.
You can fill it out online or at your local office. You can also call 1-800-772-1213 for help.
Why Is This Happening?
The SSA says they’ve sent billions in incorrect payments over the years.
Some people owe thousands of dollars and had no idea.
There have been cases where people were hit with bills as high as $63,000 or more.
Now the agency is trying to fix the problem by recovering the money faster.
How This Affects You
If you didn’t get a letter about overpayment, you should be fine. You’ll still get your full check.
But if you were notified after April 25, your benefits might shrink this month.
If you’re not sure, check your SSA account or call their number to ask.
What You Should Do Now
- Check your mailbox for any overpayment letters
- Review your online Social Security account
- File Form SSA-632 if needed
- Act before July 24 to avoid losing half your check
Social Security is still paying millions of Americans this month.
But if the SSA says you were overpaid, you need to act fast. Otherwise, you might only get half of what you expect.
Don’t wait until your check comes up short. Take steps now to protect your benefits.
